Sea Fever - John Masefield

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking,

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
"Stop saying sorry. Say thank you instead. When you say, “sorry for being a jerk” the other person is forced to either call you a jerk or say it wasnt a big deal. Instead, say “thank you for being so patient with me” so the other person has a reason to say they love you."
I saw this gem on Reddit tonight.  It was posted under a topic of “What ‘little’ things you can do to improve your relationship with your significant other.”  I’m definitely taking this piece of advice with me into my next relationship. (via blakebaggott)

Friday was an absolutely glorious day.
I have new normals now. What I can do and what I can’t do are totally different from what they once were.
I have gained the ability to appreciate the simple pleasures of everyday life after having gone without them.for some time. Everyday is a new day. Everyday is a good day. Even when it doesn’t present that way.

I had breakfast with my datemate and then we headed out to Taitua Arboretum which is a total haven. It’s clear to see that there has been a lot of love,care and work put into creating a space where people can be in touch with the earth. We sat in the late winter sun and soaked up the surroundings. Bliss.

Afterward we headed to the university for a screening of the Dead Poets Society put on by the Uni Poetry club. The Dead poets society always stirs me up and I always (like I’m sure is the case for others) feel moved toward creativity and spontaneity.

Afterward the poetry club and tagalongs like myself headed to the city library for National poetry day open mic. We performed a piece of collaborative poetry constructed from snippets of overheard conversations. As much as I would like to claim that, I was only along for the ride. The club has put it together earlier in the week. Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun.
The competition that followed was absolutely awe-inspiring. People of all ages and experience got up and gave it a go, delivering hard hitting message. It was really inspiring to see such a creative, encouraging and supportive community at work in our city.

I met some awesome folk who have roused me to extend myself.
